Artist's Description

This photo can be interpreted in different ways, but my intention was to show how when talking about crime, safety, and guns, a cultural obsession with guns often seems more important than both the actual right to protect ourselves as outlined in the 2nd Amendment and the value of human lives. Also while we have the right to bear arms, who would want the "right" to bear the grief that comes with being a family member or friend of someone killed by gun violence. I intentionally blurred the flag to make it appear more in the background than it actually was to reinforce the idea that the gun seems more prominent than the ideas, values, and protections outlined in the Bill of Rights.
